It’s National Dessert Day and today we talk about pies! Yes, pies! It doesn’t get any more American as Apple Pie, or so the saying goes.
For the month of November, The Yard will be taking orders for ice cream pies. You heard that right folks. A delicious concoction of toppings, ice cream, and the perfect crust to compliment all of the flavors we store in house.
As you may already know, The Yard is anything but conventional, and we are always coming up with great ideas to satisfy the sweetest of cravings. As we divulged into our research to create the perfect pie crust for our delectable Ice Cream Pies, we came across some great history pertaining pie crust.
The further we got into our pie crust research the creepier it got. Convenient for Halloween? We think so!
According to the piecounsil.org, pie crust was originally known as a “coffyn” in England around the 12th century. A coffin?! Sounds spooky if you ask us!
Furthermore, these “coffyns” were made for meat pies and not sweets. They were not made to be eaten, but instead constructed to hold food for baking and to keep around, such as our common cookware or tupperware respectively.
Thankfully, the pie crust eventually evolved into the sweet, tasty pie crust we use today!
During our journey, we made several crusts until we made the perfect crust for our ice cream pies. After several taste tests and multiple crusts, we finally landed on a graham cracker base crust that compliments our ice cream flavors exquisitely. We either go big or go home, and we never settle for anything other than the best.
We strive for originality and our Ice Cream Pies are definitely unique and a must try during the month of November!
